The author misses the point of ‘living biblically’ according to ancient Jewish wisdom. In the 2nd century a key Jewish rabbi relates a wisdom proverb:
“Accursed is the one who applies the Torah with legalism.”
This Jewish proverb probably arises in reaction to the criticism of Jesus on the extreme legalism of some Jewish Pharisees. The Bible can be appropriately used as a guide for wise living, but not as a rule book. Perhaps the decalogue is the only literal rule set.
