Getting distracted by ideas

Scrappin’ with Jerry

We went up to a salvage yard in Idaho, hunting for stainless steel. Along the way, we stopped at an antique store, where I bought 20 or so 78s, including the one you’ll hear on the video: “One Alone,” performed by Nat Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra.

  2. I like the idea of reviving these 78s for new audiences in the form of picaresque music videos… My brother lives in Boise and tells me its the thirteenth straight day of an eerie inversion — not even a sliver of the sun has yet emerged into visibility, heavy fogs, and he’s been told that a thousand feet or so higher up in the mountains, it’s sunny and about ten degrees warmer.

  3. Yes, we are suffering from inversion as well. It’s a lot like being in a fishbowl that no one has cleaned in a long time. A heavier storm is on the way, and that should jumble up the air enough to let the polluted air drift away. Jan/Feb are the worst time of year for this.

Just wait ’til you hear “Yaaka Hula Hickey Dula.”

  4. Charlie,
our internet connection is so primitive I can’t even begin to view all the pictures and videos you’ve got here, but I’m astounded by the resonance between your blog and mine. We’re both trying to figure out what mysterious objects are for, reporting on silent film, responding to performances. Your mysterious object looks cooler than mine, but it’s more complex, meaning more attributes to reveal function. Therefore an easier puzzle. Mine is a real stumper.

February 1 we get a new allotment of download time on the GPRS network. Maybe I can watch a video then.
