Surveyor lamp

p1000851p1000852

Back when we bought the Columbia Grafonola, we also bought an old surveyor’s tripod. A trip to the home supply store, a bit of retro-fitting, and — voila! A lamp. Somehow, it doesn’t sound as exciting as it feels.

Turned out nice. And since it was on my mind after talking to you about it at Lowes, I used it as an example in my Aesthetics class – was there a formal change? The matter persisted, but it IS now a lamp and not a surveyor’s tripod (Aristotle thinks even artefact forms have a certain integrity). It is a confusing example, though, because so much of the organization (supplied by the form) of the matter remained throughout the change.
